Medals

F O R L E A R N E R S

Learners can earn medals by acing quizzes and strengthening their knowledge.

Medals stack up on a learner’s profile as a rewarding reminder of their accomplishments.

Tapping a medal displays additional details unique to that medal.

Certifications

F O R L E A R N E R S

Certifications, are awarded after a learner has earned medals on every quiz within a given topic. Like medals, certifications come in three tiers: gold, silver, and bronze.

Like medals, learners can see what certifications they’ve earned on their profile page.

Learners can earn a certification in any topic their learning manager sets as certification-eligible.

MEDALS

Keep your learners motivated with quiz medals. When your learner gets a perfect score on a quiz, they earn a platinum medal, while scoring over 90% earns a gold and over 80% a bronze – but you can reach out to Trivie to customize your medals. These collectibles help learners see what they know well and what they need to work on – and help you identify who knows their content best.

You can check how many of your learners have earned gold, silver, and bronze medals in each quiz on the quiz’s detail pages – and you can see what medals each learner has earned on their detail page on Insights.

Certifications

Some topics are important enough that completion isn’t enough. When you need to know that your learners have truly learned a set of content, you can use our new Certification feature.

Set any topic as certification-eligible on Insights by going to the Topic Detail Page, under Content > Topics. Certifications, like medals, come in three tiers: platinum, gold, and silver. And earning a certification is simple: learners just need to earn a medal in every quiz within the topic to earn that rank of certification.

To see what certifications your learners have in a topic, check that Topic Detail Page in Insights and click on the “People” tab. If you’re curious about a specific user, browse to their User Detail Page and look at their certification case.

Problem

Traditionally, employee training is a one-and-done deal. Content is sent out, employees needed to be prodded to complete the course material, and minimal insight into effectiveness is gained after the fact.

Admins multiple responsibilities outside of training initiatives but still need to visibility into knowledge gaps to get ahead of potential risks before they escalate.

Across industries, admins consistently voiced the need for easily accessible, shareable, and customizable training reports to stay ahead of risks before they escalate.

Key Principles When Designing

Intuitive. I knew admins needed quick and easy access to learner insights – whether they are mid-program, or returning to the platform for a new training initiative months later.

Actionable. Having data is one thing, ensuring it is both informative and actionable was key to providing real value for admins and organizations at large.

Shareable. It was important to consider everyone who would be looking at this – C-suite, learning managers and team. I wanted these reports to be understandable and shareable for individuals at any level.

Feature Dive In

Overall learner activity viewable at a glance and topics tied to corresponding image.

Clear, actionable view of areas where learners lacked knowledge, and where they are excelling.

Simple visuals of baselines for a live view of starting knowledge and improvement over time.

Results

An all-in-one knowledge hub for training administrators providing insight into training performance.

Overwhelmingly positive response from current and prospect users across industries.

Significant increaser in user activity to-date.

Components

Problem

Admins had no way to customize and measure their learners’ achievements in aggregated ways.

Previously, it was not clear what points were worth — Learners knew they were earning them, but unsure of the benefit.

Adding in customizable user levels, with customizable badges, names, and point thresholds, were designed to address both of these problems.

Results

Admins were thrilled with the ability to easily use levels to boost learner motivation which is a common challenge, especially with dense content.

With levels, points have a clear meaning and purpose. They provide a finish line and a goal to aim towards at every stage of the learner experience. As a result, learner engagement increased.

Gain collaborators - The success of re-building the platform and related products, was reliant on buy-in from our technology departments and the University at large. My team and I succeeded in socializing the core vision and gained consensus across key stakeholders and business partners —demonstrating that an investment in digital products and platforms benefited both business goals and user goals.

Map New E2E Architecture

We realized our information architecture was a major blocker to quick, consistent and high quality product output. We needed to rebuild — E2E — from the ground up in order to sustain the platform and umbrella products long-term.

Automate Business Processes

A significant portion of our internal processes — anything from data acquisition to user account creation — were highly manual. This resulted in a less than desirable experience for both the end user — and our internal teams.

Train Engineers

Luckily, our Engineering Team were (and are) inherently self-starters — experts in their field, and simultaneously willing to embrace change and able to adapt seamlessly.

Establish Full-stack Workflow

Through trial and error - we designed an E2E workflow that allowed us to iterate quickly and often - maximize our capacity to ensure high quality output - critical components for promptly addressing user needs.
